1st Breakout Session: Dealing with Market Disruptions
Monday October 28, 2024 3:00pm - 4:00pm CDT
When our national supply chain became disrupted during the pandemic, the public became conscious of the importance of supporting local growers.

Darlene will be discussing MarketMaker, one of the most extensive interactive commerce platforms that provides food marketing information to food entrepreneurs (agricultural producers, buyers, processors, wholesalers, food retailers, restaurants, and transporters) and their customers. It is an ever-growing, always-evolving, partnership of land grant universities, state departments of agriculture, and food and agricultural organizations, all investing in coordinated efforts to build a virtual infrastructure bringing healthier, fresher, and more flavorful food to consumers. After COVID-19 closed most of the small stores around Leslie's hometown in Hawaii, she started their own farmers market to sell their lamb products. She will be discussing how they went about doing that as well as how they provided market dollars and accepted EBT transactions. They started with just four vendors, including themselves, and now have over 60 vendors attend their market. https://kaimufm.com/
